Toyota engineering is being recognized for the 8th consecutive year, by Intellectual Property Owners Association(IPO), for earning the most research and development patents among automakers in the United States. In fact, they were granted over 2,750 patents in 2021 alone. These patents allowed Toyota to progress in categories such as electrification, automated driving systems, hardware, AI and more. 

Have you heard of a man named Doug DeMuro? If you have, you may know him as a successful automotive Journalist and YouTuber. So why does our Toyota of Plano team want to discuss this particular automotive influencer. Well simply put, Doug recently retired his Range Rover and chose to purchase a 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser to replace it. 

Although 2021 brought many hurdles within the automotive industry, Toyota and Toyota of Plano made the most of this past year. The joint effort from Toyota Corporate, Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing, and Toyota Dealerships allowed the manufacturer to secure the number one spot, as America’s Top-Selling Automaker of 2021. This news is quite ground breaking, as General Motors has traditionally held this title. In fact, 2021 marks the first year since 1931 that General Motors has not been America’s Top-Selling Automaker. 

Innovation is at the heart of Toyota and Toyota of Plano’s mission. This has allowed Toyota to surpass other manufacturers in a number of valuable areas. In fact, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America was granted over 2,800 US patents in 2020 alone. This allowed the manufacturer to become the recipient of the greatest number of patents of all automotive manufacturers in the US, and overall Toyota ranked among the top 15 of all organizations to receive patented technologies that year.
