Although 2021 brought many hurdles within the automotive industry, Toyota and Toyota of Plano made the most of this past year. The joint effort from Toyota Corporate, Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing, and Toyota Dealerships allowed the manufacturer to secure the number one spot, as America’s Top-Selling Automaker of 2021. This news is quite ground breaking, as General Motors has traditionally held this title. In fact, 2021 marks the first year since 1931 that General Motors has not been America’s Top-Selling Automaker. That’s 90 consecutive years, and this distinction will make Toyota the first non-domestic automaker to have held this title.
While there may be a number of factors that led to this major victory for Toyota and our Toyota of Plano team, many have suggested that Toyota’s response to the industry's supply chain issues was much more comprehensive than its competitors. In addition to comprehensive strategies to maintain and even increase production, Toyota also released several upgraded versions of it’s most popular vehicles, and with the recent release of the 2022 Toyota Tundra, they announced the completion of a multibillion dollar expansion of one of their largest manufacturing facilities in the US. During which the manufacturer even received praise from the Texas Governor, who remarked that “Toyota has played a pivotal role in Texas’ continued economic success, and [he is] grateful for the billions of dollars in investment and thousands of jobs they have brought to the Lone Star State.” This is just one of the many ways Toyota received recognition within the US, this past year. Each acknowledgement has helped to further establish Toyota as an important automaker within the American automotive market.
Despite setbacks that occurred in 2021 due to several external market factors, Toyota sold 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S., last year alone. That is over 10% more compared to the previous year, while competitors like GM had sales drop a staggering 12.9%. To briefly sum up 2021, it was a major year for Toyota and our Toyota of Plano team. We look forward to more success to come, and we encourage you to check out our full lineup of 2022 and 2021 models. Visit Toyota of Plano today, and see why 2021 was the year Americans chose Toyota.
