Toyota has done it again! Toyota engineering is being recognized for the 8th consecutive year, by Intellectual Property Owners Association(IPO), for earning the most research and development patents among automakers in the United States. In fact, they were granted over 2,750 patents in 2021 alone. These patents allowed Toyota to progress in categories such as electrification, automated driving systems, hardware, AI and more.
“Every patent Toyota Engineering is granted allows our Toyota of Plano team to remain confident that we are offering our customers the newest most advanced safety technologies and features on the market,” said John Phelan, Toyota of Plano general manager. “We could not be more proud of the hard work and many hours that went into securing this spot for Toyota, for the 8th consecutive year.”
When asked about Toyota’s recognition as the top awarded patent recipient of automakers in the US, Sandra Phillips-Rogers general counsel, chief legal officer and chief diversity officer for Toyota Motor North America said “We are delighted to be recognized as a global technology leader as evidenced by the many patents issued to Toyota”. “The number of issued patents is a testament to Toyota’s vast R&D efforts and the team members who bring these technologies to life.”
