This morning, Toyota issued a press release announcing a project aimed at empowering the blind and visually impaired by increasing their mobility, and giving them greater freedom, independence, and confidence. Dubbed "Project BLAID," the new initiative is more evidence of Toyota's commitment to advancing mobility for all.
At the center of the project is a device that is worn around the user's shoulders. Equipped with cameras, the device relays information about the user's surroundings through speakers and vibration motors. The user can interact with the device via voice commands and buttons."
“Toyota is more than just the great cars and trucks we build; we believe we have a role to play in addressing mobility challenges, including helping people with limited mobility do more,” said Doug Moore, Manager, Partner Robotics, Toyota. “We believe this project has the potential to enrich the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired.”
Project BLAID is just one of several initiatives being undertaken by Toyota in an effort to have a positive impact on society and the environment. To learn more, visit TheToyotaEffect.com.
