Our Toyota of Plano team is very proud to represent a manufacturer that is constantly looking for ways to improve standards within the automotive industry. Over the past few decades, Toyota Motor Corporation has remained dedicated to innovation, research and development. In fact, in the past, Toyota has even shared that they spend over a million dollars per hour on research and development. As a predominant leader in innovative design and development, Toyota has emphasized the importance of creativity in breeding innovative ideas, and in 2004, Toyota decided to use their platform to help encourage younger thinkers to be more creative - by launching the Dream Car Art Contest.
The Dream Car Art Contest was created to give young artists the opportunity to express themselves and consider what tools they could use to ensure a better, more cognizant world for generations to come. This contest allows Toyota to engage with and encourage the youngest and most impressionable members of our society to dream about their futures, fostering curiosity and interest in building a better future for transportation. For this reason and more, Toyota of Plano is excited to take a closer look at Toyota’s worldwide contest, especially now that this year’s winners have been announced!
This year marks Toyota’s 15th Dream Car Art Contest. Once again, Toyota challenged contestants to tap into their dreams and create original artwork that depicts what they imagine the cars of the future will look like. This year’s submissions included everything from dreams of flying cars, eco-friendly cars, self-driving cars to even a car-bot hybrid. As a contest that is limited to children 15 years old and under, the Toyota team aims to challenge children to think of an ideal future for transportation that would help to support our social and environmental goals.
This year's submissions totalled approximately 530,000, from 78 countries and regions. In order to properly evaluate each entry, the contest was first held in a series of nationwide competitions, from March 2021 until February 2022, and the winning entries from each nation were then judged in the worldwide competition.
In May 2022, a panel of non-Toyota affiliated art experts and automotive specialists came together to judge the worldwide submissions and organized winners into three categories, by age. After completion, the judges general evaluation of this year's contestants noted that there was a particularly impressive diversity in how the world was depicted, across contest entries. It became very clear that children give a more refreshing and imaginative look into the future of the world, often lacking more rationalized reservations that limit many adults' imaginations.
Let's take a look at this year's winners!

The three winning contestants came from Thailand, China, and the United States. The winner of the youngest age group’s piece depicts a garbage truck that sucks in waste and transforms the waste into valuable new products for everyday use. Another of the three winning submissions, played on a similar theme of taking waste and transforming it, but instead of producing other products, the waste is transformed into a clean, environmentally-friendly waste. The winner of the oldest age group took a very different approach. Instead the entry brings together two of the artist's passions, music and plants. The piece depicts a world where flying pianos, lined with plants and various foliage, exist and offer people a release through music. The artist dreams of a world where these futuristic vehicles could lead to positive physical health effects and a deeper appreciation for the environment.
It’s quite evident from the contest winners that many entries focused on environmental preservation, but this does not fully sum up the kinds of submissions that Toyota received. Special awards were also given to a contestant that dreamed of a lightning-fast car that could shapeshift into any transportation vessel and another contestant that dreamed of a vehicle that could achieve freedom and peace for all - by breaking down natural and societal borders. Our Toyota of Plano team was blown away by this year’s winners, and we look forward to more incredible artwork to come during next year's competition.
