The 2022 Toyota Tundra has arrived. After a lot of anticipation and speculation, Toyota announced on Sunday, September 19th that they were officially unveiling the next generation of the 2022 Toyota Tundra. Let’s break down some of the key features of the largest and most durable vehicle in Toyota of Plano’s impressive lineup of trucks.

If you are looking for a vehicle that was built with a customer’s active lifestyle in mind, the 2022 Tundra was made for you. Toyota’s expert engineers worked to create a vehicle that showed off it’s ‘Technical Muscle’ inside and out. This means that you can count on this vehicle to be equipped with the proper engineering to enhance your off-roading and on-road experience, from inside the cabin to under the hood. As an added bonus, the Tundra is also only manufactured in the Lone Star State.

The 2022 Tundra features two impressive engine options. The first engine is a highly efficient twin-turbo V6, with 389 horsepower and 479 pounds of torque. This standard engine also features an aluminum block, a chain-driven 24-valve dual overhead cam, and Toyota’s Dual VVTi system. For those of you looking to push the limits on engine power, check out the iForce MAX powertrain that boasts an outstanding output of 437 horsepower and an extremely impressive 583 pounds of torque. The iForce Max includes a standard twin-turbo V6 engine and receives it’s boost of power with the addition of an electric motor generator. The engine also features parallel hybrid components - that are most notable during engine start-up, EV driving, electric assist, and energy regeneration. The result of these impressive engine upgrades is a highly responsive engine capable of performing exceptionally well during all kinds of highway, towing, and off-roading extremes.

Two of the most practical features of the new Tundra are it’s new high-tension steel platform and highly efficient suspension system. The high-tension steel platform improves the overall durability and strength of the Tundra’s frame. While the Tundra's new suspension system, with a newly developed double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, increased the robust Truck’s lateral rigidity, straight-line stability, overall handling dynamics, and general ride comfort.

With all of these improvements comes improved performance. The towing capacity on the 2022 Tundra increased by 17.6%, over the previous generation, and it can now tow up to 12,000 pounds. The hauling capability was also dramatically improved, allowing the Tundra to haul 11.2% more weight than the generation prior. This means that this rugged truck can haul a staggering 1,925 pounds. In addition to towing and hauling capacities, the new generation of Tundra’s includes two new Tow/Haul modes; a multi-terrain monitor that features a front, rear, and side camera views of the trucks surroundings; and an available panoramic view monitor that offers a top-down perspective.

It’s time to explore some of the upgrades within the cabin. The 2022 Tundra is the first Toyota vehicle to take advantage of Toyota’s Connected Technologies’ redesigned multimedia system.  The multimedia system can be adjusted with the standard 8-inch touchscreen display or the available 14-inch panel. It’s also equipped with a Human Machine Interface, which allows you to interact with the system through sight, touch, and voice. In fact the interactive voice assistant has never been more intuitive, and it has been programmed to react to a much larger range of responses, including colloquial terms like “Hi” and “Yo”.

Finally, the 2022 Toyota Tundra comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. You can drive more confidently knowing that Toyota’s safety features will add an extra layer of safety to keep you and your passengers safe when the unexpected happens. Toyota Safety Sense features an array of impressive systems, including Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Lane Departure Alerts, Automatic High Beams, Road Sign Assist, and Rear Seat Reminder. Additionally, the Tundra also has a Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Parking Brake Support, which engages the brakes if the possibility of a collision with a stationary object is sensed.
