We all love driving in North Texas, but like many of our fellow North Texans, we discovered the hard way that it’s easy to get caught off-guard by how quickly the temperature rises. The high summer temperatures that we experience in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, and near-by areas like Denton, Highland Village, Little Elm, Carrollton, can cause serious damage to your vehicle.
We’ve put together a list of important steps to ensure your vehicle makes it through the hot North Texas summer.
* If you don’t have access to covered parking, having a dashboard sunshade will protect your cabin’s interior from ultraviolet rays and keep the interior cooler.
* It’s important to get your car serviced in preparation for the heat. Typically when you bring your vehicle for service at Toyota of Plano, it will undergo a multi-point service inspection. However, in warmer weather, there are certain things our service technicians like to pay particular attention to. For instance, we will check your car’s coolant system, ensure that your car or truck has the optimal coolant levels, look for leaks (especially at joints and connection points), and determine whether your vehicle’s hoses are firm and not excessively soft. Our technicians will also check your car’s engine belts. You may have heard of a serpentine belt, which is a belt that runs between the alternator, the fan, and other essential components. This particular belt will need to be in good condition and have the necessary amount of tension in order to make it through the sometimes extreme Texas heat.
* If your wipers are cracked and worn they will likely leave unsightly streaks across your windshield or not function properly at all. Ask your Toyota of Plano technician whether you should replace your windshield wipers, next time you come in for a service or an oil change.
