We all know the importance of good tires-- they keep you on the road. That is probably the #1 priority of anyone driving a car: stay on the road.
Sounds simple, but how do you know when your tires need a change? And what happens if you don't change them in time?
This video demonstrates the same car stopping from 60mph on a wet road. A car with 10/32 inch deep tread stops about 10x faster than a car with only 2/32 inch tread.
To avoid getting stuck with balding tires, check your tread depth using a penny, or a quarter. Lincoln's head begins at almost exactly 1/16 (aka 2/32) inch from the edge of the coin. So, if you can still see Honest Abe's hair, you need new tires.
On a Quarter, George Washington's hair is 1/8 (aka 4/32) inch from the edge. Using a quarter instead of a penny gives you a little more buffer.
