Production of the all-new, re-designed 2022 Toyota Tundra at San Antonio’s Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX) has begun, and Toyota of Plano will be one of the first dealerships to receive inventory. This comes after TMMTX spent a cumulative investment of over $3.1 billion to ensure seamless production of the 2022 Tundra. This impressive investment went towards the expansion of the Texas manufacturer’s facility by 141,000 linear feet, which is equivalent to 470 football fields. The extra space has been added to accommodate the new processes and cutting-edge technologies introduced to expand production capabilities, allowing the redesigned Tundra to be more readily available to Toyota of Plano’s customers. According to Toyota Newsroom this expansion of the TMMTX facility has increased its capacity to allow for the production of an estimated 208,000 vehicles per calendar year and allows TMMTX to now house over 20 on-site suppliers.
Governor Greg Abbott weighed in on Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas expansion by saying “there is no brand more powerful than Made In Texas, and Toyota’s San Antonio-based production of the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra is a testament to that”. He went on to say that “Toyota has played a pivotal role in Texas’ continued economic success, and [he is] grateful for the billions of dollars in investment and thousands of jobs they have brought to the Lone Star State.”
In addition to the impressive investment TMMTX has made in an effort to expand production and job opportunities in the state, TMMTX has made significant contributions to their community. On December 3rd the TMMTX team announced they were donating an additional $650,000 toward expanding access to transportation, food, STEM education, and workforce development - focused mainly on San Antonio’s south side.
