Toyota is making its yearly appearance in Las Vegas for the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.
Last year, futurist Dr. Michio Kaku took the stage to talk about the Toyota Mirai, and how many of its patents were released royalty-free to help other automakers develop hydrogen technology.
This year, the buzz is all about self-driving cars.
The CEO of the newly founded Toyota Research Institute, Dr. Gill Pratt, is at CES 2016. TRI will focus on at least 30 initial projects in research and development of robotics and artificial intelligence. Toyota's goal is to have self-driving cars on American highways by 2020.
Short of fully autonomous vehicles, we are likely to continue seeing improvements in active safety features in the coming years, as new vehicles get smarter at detecting traffic and avoiding collisions.
